MOV to MP3 without uploading the recording.

Drop a QuickTime or iPhone MOV. The video track is discarded, the audio track you choose is decoded and re-encoded as MP3, and the file never leaves this tab.

01

What this converter does

movtomp3.co converts QuickTime MOV video to MP3 audio in the browser; the file is never uploaded.

The MOV container is read from your disk, the video track is dropped without being decoded, and the audio track is decoded and re-encoded as MP3. The output is written in this tab and offered as a download. There is no upload endpoint, no account and no queue.

If you need the reverse direction, or a different source format, this page is deliberately single-purpose. The how-it-works page explains the engine, the browser requirements and the cases where the converter will refuse a file rather than write a broken one.

02

How it works

01 / 03

List the audio tracks

QuickTime files can carry more than one audio track. The panel shows language, channel count and sample rate for each, so a second track is not silently ignored.

02 / 03

Drop the picture

ProRes, HEVC or H.264 video is discarded without being decoded. A 4 GB camera file and a 40 MB phone clip take the same audio path.

03 / 03

Write the MP3

LAME WASM encodes the selected track in a worker. The output is a local file; no request carries the recording.

Questions

Why does my MOV lose part of the audio?

Most cases are a second audio track or a converter with a hidden length limit. This page lists every track and the full duration before conversion. Pick the right track and leave the trim fields empty to keep the whole recording.

Can I convert an iPhone MOV?

Yes, in Safari 26 or newer. iPhone video is usually HEVC with AAC audio. Save the clip to Files first, then open this page in Safari and choose the file.

Does QuickTime Player export MP3?

No. File > Export As > Audio Only writes an M4A file with AAC audio. It is a useful first step, but it is not MP3. This page writes MP3 directly from the MOV.

Are ProRes MOV files supported?

Yes, when the audio track is AAC or PCM. The ProRes video is dropped without decoding, so its size does not slow the audio conversion.

Is the file uploaded?

No. The MOV is read from disk and processed in this tab. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy.

Why is the MP3 so much smaller?

The picture is most of a MOV. Once the video track is dropped, only the soundtrack remains, encoded at the bitrate you choose.

06

Limits, stated up front

  • No upload limit, but a memory limit. The file is read lazily from disk; the output still has to fit in the tab. Very large files can exhaust a phone or a low-memory laptop.
  • MP3 is lossy. The converter never claims otherwise. It re-encodes the audio; choose a bitrate at or above the source to avoid stacking more loss than necessary.
  • Not every codec is supported. The browser must be able to decode the audio track. ALAC, AC-3, DTS, WMA, AMR and DRM-protected files are rejected with a clear message.
  • No URL input. The file must be on your device. The tool does not fetch from streaming services or bypass DRM.
